  • Understand what triggers your child’s asthma.
  • Make an asthma action plan for your child.
  • Understand your child’s daily and rescue medications.
  • Learn the early warning signs of an asthma attack.

What is asthma?

Asthma is a long term illness that makes the airways to your child’s lungs narrow, swollen, or blocked. It is important to do everything you can to keep your child’s asthma under control.

Uncontrolled asthma:

  • Makes it hard for your child to breathe.
  • Keeps you child from playing sports or doing physical activities.
  • Can cause your child to miss school or work.

You can help your child control asthma if you:

  • Know your child’s triggers and how to avoid them.
  • Make sure your child takes their daily medicine as directed by their doctor.
  • Make sure your child uses their rescue inhaler as directed by their doctor.
